Quick Update- 1 week

Tashe Delek (Hello)

It is one week from departure and the anticipation is rising. We have been instructed all week on film making which is very exciting and makes it feel more real with regards to the documentary film that will come out of the work in India. I would like to note a new partnership that has just developed and thank Kelly Buckley for her interest in a Pen Pal project with the Tibetan Children. Kelly is a teacher and has been participating in the Pennies for Partnerships through her efforts of recycling. She has expressed interest in creating a Pen Pal program with her 45 students. This was discussed in our meeting yesterday and we will start the program in Camp #3 where the new Tibetan Children’s Heritage will be initiated. Anyone else interested in Pen Pal relationships are welcome so just let me know and it will be arranged while visiting Camp #3. This is an excellent way to assist the Tibetans with English and show global support in connecting with other parts of the world.

Just a quick update on the Pennies for Partnerships:

Contributions continue to come in so thank you to everyone. The newest update is $1193.32 which will be distributed as follows: $571.66 will be donated to the Tibetan Womens Association and $621.66 will be distributed to the Tibetan Children Heritage for educational assistance with teachers/tutors. Thank you to all the partners that have made this possible. I look forward to the children receiving news of your support.

I would like to acknowledge the partners in the Pennies for Partnerships program and again thank you all for your time, effort, and contributions.

Picture of countryside surrounding Dharamsala, India. Notice the person with the umbrella? Well I will be there during monsoon season.

Dharamsala is the town where I will be spending the majority of my summer working in the Tibetan Womens Association. This is home to approximately 8000 Tibetan refugees/exiles, the home of the Dalai Lama and the Exiled Tibetan Government. To learn more about the issues of Tibet please see the links provided on the left sidebar of the blog.

Classes Begin

Tashe delek (hello)!

The summer session has started and the preparation for the India trip is in full swing. I will soon post the travel schedule and tell you more about the plans being made.

The book we are reading for class is History of Propaganda by John Powers. It is a text that looks at both perspectives of the historical situation of Tibet and attempts to disclose the differences between the Tibetan perspective and the Chinese perspective. It is sure to be a very informative read offering insight to a two-sided story. Next week we will learn about making a documentary film with the assistance of an experienced professional. I am looking forward to sharing more details at a later date.

At this time I would like to thank the newest contributor that has pushed the fund raising close to a thousand dollars. Our newest update is $ 999.58. I need to make a correction to the distribution for there has been some specific requests in support of The Tibetan Children’s Heritage. So the distribution of current funds is $524.79 which will support the children with teachers/turors and $474.79 will be contributed to the Stitches of Tibet program sponsored by The Tibetan Womens Association.

The Pennies for Partnerships is still in need of your assistance and I am asking for your help. There are many ways you can assist. Please consider the name “Pennies for Partnerships” the idea is it just takes a little to give and we so often toss away pennies. If you would like to donate your aluminum cans or pennies you can cash them in and donate to the cause which would be greatly appreciated. If you would like you can drop off bags of aluminum or jars of pennies at the address listed below. Your generous donations can also be mailed to:

Thank you so much for your consideration of partnering on a global effort to end poverty through education.

Thanks for visiting the blog and there will be more exciting details to come especially once we arrive in India. The picture below will be the first stop in Delhi at Hotel Tara when we arrive in India on June 8th at 8:30pm. See the people on the roof? Chances are that is where I will be hanging out looking over the skyline and adjusting to a new time zone. I am very excited to share my adventures so thanks for reading and commenting.

Recent Developments- New Partnerships

Tashe Delek (Hello)

The time is nearing and the count down is on 27 days until departure.

The most recent tally on the Pennies for Partnerships has been 18 contributors and some donations of aluminum cans by several conscious friends and co-workers. Thank you for your gifts, contributions and efforts of support. There is at this time a total of $974. 58 which will be divided between The Tibetan Children’s Heritage and The Tibetan Womens Association. The Tibetan Children’s Heritage $487.29 which is over a years salary for a teacher/tutor. The same amount will be distributed to TWA to support the Stitches of Tibet education and economic development program.

Wonderful new developments have occurred this past week. The Alpha Phi Omega student service sorority has presented supporting the program as an ongoing service project starting next year. There is a possibility the program will get accepted on a National Level meaning all 9 refugee camps could find support for the project to continue for years to come. Lets hope this becomes a reality and in the mean time the Pennies for Partnerships will continue to raise money for the initial hiring of teachers/turors in each camp starting this summer.
All the support and prayers are appreciated. I look forward to reporting from one of the camps where the first pilot program will be initiated upon our visit to India. We are happy to say that the first individual will be hired soon and the program developers in India are looking for the right person that will have the necessary credentials to teach proficiently in the subjects of English Literacy, Math, Sciences, and Tibetan Culture. The program will strive to empower the children to continue their education and seek opportunities beyond the camps in India by searching for educational opportunities to study in other countries and maintain their cultural heritage.

If you are interested in supporting the Pennies for Partnership Fund Raiser you can send your contributions to:
